Members of the South American marsupial family Microbiotheriidae are known from Late Oligocene (Colhuehuapian) and Early Miocene (Santacrucian) age beds in Patagonia, southern Argentina, and in the Recent fauna from Chiloe Island, south central Chile, and from adjacent parts of Argentina.
